Book: Mark Twain on the Damned Human Race

A collection of essays by the American master. Twain’s brilliant satire and his empathy for human suffering are evident throughout.

Book: Reave the Just

Short stories from the inimitable Donaldson. Good stuff.

Book: Wicked

Maguire’s first novel. This one is excellent as well, although a bit more dictionarily challenging than Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister.

Book: Underboss

I bought this in an airport, OK? I didn’t have anything else to read. What would you have done, smarty-pants? Fine, I admit it, I loved it.

Book: Angela's Ashes

Ok, so everyone and their evil twin read this book and so did I.

Book: Great Apes

A strange and funny book about a man who finds himself and everyone else around him transformed into sentient chimpanzees.

Book: The Sandman Book of Dreams

A collection of short stories by different authors set in the Sandman universe.

Book: God Bless You, Dr. Kevorkian

A collection of (very) short episodes in which Vonnegut has “near death” experiences administered by Dr. Kevorkian. I liked it.

Book: Running to the Mountain

Katz’s autobiographical account of his decision to spend several months living in a cabin in the mountains and reading Thomas Merton. I enjoyed it.

Book: The Blind Watchmaker

Another treatment of the Darwinian theory of evolution by Dawkins. This book deals with the subject of adaptive complexity and explains how variation with natural selection is the only theory so far proposed which is capable of explaining the presence of so much adaptive complexity in the world of living things.
